Types of dental crowns available in India

1. Metal Crowns: They are usually ideal for back teeth as they have a metallic appearance. They are durable and can withstand biting or chewing forces. They are made from a combination of gold palladium, nickle and chromium.
2. Procelain-fused-to-metal crown (PFM Crown): These crowns have metal covered with porcelain and are esthetic and durable to withstand chewing forces.
3. All Ceramic or All-Porcelain Crowns: They are made entirelly with Porcelain, hence they are highly aesthetic and suitable for front teeth for a natural appearance.

4. Zirconia Crowns: Zirconia crowns fall into the category of all-ceramic crowns. They are highly durable, can withstand heavy chewing forces and opaque in appearance. Hence, they are more suitable for back teeth. People with metal allergies can opt for Zirconia crowns. They are costlier than PFM crowns and Metal Crowns
5. E-Max Crowns: E-Max crown is also a type of all-ceramic crown and is made from Lithium disilicate. They are durable and translucent in nature, hence they better suitable for front teeth for a natural appearance. Emax-crowns are generally more expensive than Zirconia crowns.
Both Zirconia and E-Max crowns if maintained properly can last for as long as 10-20 years. Both of the crowns are designed and manufactured using CAD (Computer-aided design)-CAM (Computer-aided manufacturing) technology.
